Nestled in the heart of the Lower Guinea forest, Bayang-Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary is a beacon of biodiversity and conservation in Central Africa. Established on March 12, 1996, by prime ministerial decree n° 96/119, our sanctuary spans 66,220 hectares and serves as a vital refuge for some of the world's most endangered species and unique plant life.
Our mission is to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity within our sanctuary while promoting sustainable development and community engagement.
Bayang-Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary is home to an astonishing array of wildlife, including endangered species such as the forest elephant, chimpanzee, and three species of pangolins.
Since its establishment in 1996, Bayang-Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary has been at the forefront of conservation in Cameroon. Our efforts have focused on protecting large mammal populations, combating illegal hunting and deforestation, and involving local communities in sustainable development. Key milestones include the recognition as an Important Bird Area, extensive biodiversity studies, and the implementation of conservation programs with significant community participation.
Our achievements include signing Cluster Conservation Development Agreements, establishing nurseries, distributing seedlings, supporting communities with tools and equipment, conducting surveillance operations, and providing training for former poachers. These efforts reflect our commitment to sustainable management and conservation of natural resources.
